Incest, Desire, and Inner Conflict: Making Sense of Hamlet’s Rage

This essay outlines Freud’s Oedipus Complex in relation to Hamlet. Using freud’s theories on the Oedipus Complex I worked to analyze the text interactions specifically between Hamlet and Gertrude. Wondering why Hamlet spoke with Gertrude in such irrational and violent ways I looked towards Freud to find an answer. This essay will examine specific examples of text and attempt to explain  Hamlet’s behavior.
